My work began entirely from the emergence of a new movement of British Muslim artists producing work that fits in with their identity and faith. I too began to explore in my own way how my faith could be expressed through artwork, while drawing from life in Britain.
My calligraphy isn’t traditional at all and doesn’t follow traditional methods or forms. My work utilises a new script form and composition that is unlike traditional Islamic art. This allows me to incorporate my own design, which attempts to be of a contemporary nature. I also explore new methods of mixing my fine art background with calligraphy, an example of which is the ‘Palm reading’ piece.
I believe that the work stands as a reflection of British Muslims who are grounded in traditional faith-based ideals but live a modern and contemporary lifestyle in-line with British society.
Iythar is a fine artist working and residing in the UK. Iythar likes to explore surrealist, abstract and conceptual painting approaches. She also works intricately with calligraphy with her own stylistic scripts; however she does not restrict herself to any particular medium or method of painting. Iythar exhibits both in the UK and abroad. Her work can be found at www.iythar.com.

Amazing portraits, especially love the one with the child- fantastic detail!
Seeing this work first on my mobile, for a second I actually thought a few of them were photographs. This sister has a great eye for detail mA!
