Mahin,
I agree the ICTB should not be politicised to the point of a witch hunt, but it is pretty hard for it not to be used as a political issue. The BNP has been campaigning on the ICT issue, demanding the release of the war crimes suspects. The prime suspects, alleged war criminals, are members of the BNP’s political coalition in opposition.
The BNP and Khaleda Zia have called for mass opposition to the trials in the form of hartals. These speeches and actions effect the stability and image of the government.
The creation of the ICTB was one of the Awami League’s election pledges. It’s up to the people of Bangladesh to decide if justice has been done. The donor countries will not allow the ICTB to be a kangaroo court.
Politics is life. The ICTB is politics. ICTB is Bangladesh’s past, present and future. I’m confident in the international community to act as check and balance to guide the tribunals to a just conclusion.
