The death penalty is barbaric, brutal, cruel, degrading, inhuman, uncivilized and vile act of state-sanctioned violence (aka revenge). The death penalty has no place in a modern-day criminal justice system. Incarceration protects society from dangerous offenders.
The death penalty has been proven not to be a deterrent to crime.
eg. the USA still practises the death penalty on a regular basis, and yet, the USA continues to have the highest crime rates (per capita) and the highest incarceration rates (per capita) in the world. The death penalty has a brutalizing effect on society by inspiring more acts of violence.
