This is an intersting piece Shirin. As a performer myself Hip Hop and Poetry and ways of expressing what I am going through. A lot of artists choose to talk about Islam in a very open way especially in this country. For example Faisal Salah is a singer and Ibrahim Sincere is a poet who openly discuss themes related to faith. Others such as myself and Native Sun are inspired by faith but do not neccessarilly open talk about faith in music. Hip Hop has always been about expressing yourself but perfomers are becoming comfortable in their own idenity.
