A brilliantly observed, if harrowing, account of the madness of the Syrian regime. Given the history, I am not sure why it still astounds me, this blatant disregard for human life, and the happy mendacity with which it is denied, and allowed to be denied. And yet it does.
People need to keep writing, reporting, spreading the truth about what is happening, because those in power (both the Syrian governement, but also those supposedly taking them to task for these continuing horrendous acts of inhumanity) will never do so. Perhaps it is naive to hope that by broadcasting the reality of events, any pressure will come to bear on Assad to stop the torture and killing of his own people, or even cause (in my opinion complete farce that is) the UN to do more than make disappointed noises, but if this is all we can do, then it has to be better than nothing.
