It is nice to see that the three main parties have something positive to say about international development. But can the UK really make a difference across the world on its own? I don't think so. I hope that international development has an element of multilateral cooperation with other developed nations and is coordinated properly. The Millennium Development goals may be an indication of this. But will they be achieved on time?

Muslim281, of course it is unlikely that the Green party will form the next government. But if two or three Green MPs are elected, it could be crucial in a hung parliament. Don't write them off just yet! They could use some of their policies as a bargaining tool in a potential coalition government.

Muhammed Ashraf Malik, unfortunately the Green Party aren't about to be in government - maybe in 80 years time, at this rate. So their views don't matter a jot. Sorry.

Nice article. It's a shame that our community does not place more of an emphasis on international development. I suppose it is a matter of knowing of how important it is. Come to think of it, I can't even name one scholar that even talks about it!

Thanks for highlighting the topic of international development as an election issue. You are correct, we do overlook it and must give it more thought. It would have been useful if you also listed the Green Party's progressive view on this, which can be found on the following link:
