Interesting article, I completely agree, I luckily was encouraged to write as a young boy and I'm now 17 and I know I want to go into journalism insh'Allah, So I think for young people its about finding their talent and honing it. This not only keeps kids focussed but keeps some of them of the 'streets' lol

additionally please read my first article for my local newspaper insh'Allah!

Haha thanks zahra. Yes alot of people go into jobs not at all related to their degree- something like 47 percent of jobs do not require a specific degree. Very true about patience too

Hi Layla,

Thanks for reading my peice, it;s interesting that you say that because I often ask my self if I could get by with out having to go to an institution to further my studies. But I almost feel devalued if there isn;t a peice of paper to proove it.
I think with certain subjects it is often unclear with what you can do with it, which is a big problem that I find amongst my peers who are pretty much distancing away from what they studied, and getting jobs in a completely separate field.

Good luck on your quest in finding a job, especially in this time. And we must also remind ourselves that Patience is a virtue :-).

By studying philosophy I always get asked- what do I think of so and so's theory or someone might wish to have a debate. I find that alot of my skills have not come so much through the course of my degree but through other work experiences I have had alongside my education.

I read in "careers for dummies" ironically, that university is not a necessity but if someone has ambition they can do well without it. Many of those with ambition go through university. Whilst many go to university because they do not have the spirit to try without, or for security, parents, an interest in a specific field, or are just uncertain or lazy. There are many skills and opportuinities for those to do well without university. I have also recently graduated and think its a bit of a myth that university prepares you for the real world. I would like to see more apprentice and entrepreneurship opportunities for muslims, something which is slowly improoving, and for the stigma that to go through life without a degree can less to as much success or more with a degree.
