I agree with you. Muslims have this passive acceptence of when something unfortunate happens to them or another, they view it as a punnishment. Then follows the reasoning that because the person, or those around are being punnished, they will reduce the level of punnishment for themselves in the hereafter. I believe this line of reasoning is dangerous. I dont believe we have enough knowledge of the plans and intricate relations between us to understand why someone may be disadvantaged in one way or another, and another not. I therefore think, to allow yourself to believe this is a mistake and in many cases subconciously effects how you treat someone going through hardship. Regardless of whether as Ghizali says there may be some good in it, or whether it is a test like the prophet Job experienced that is not for us to decide and we should concentrate soley on including everyone and giving them the same opportunities as we ourselves have. In other words treat people how you would like to be treated.

Thank you for raising such an essential issue. I had no idea that disability was highest in the Muslim community and yet we are so neglectful of it! I've noticed some mosques have finally taken up BSL for khutbas etc which is a great start. We seriously need more of that along with generally raising awareness within the Muslim community.
